Our client is a social housing provider, delivering supported housing and residential services across West Sussex.

They approached First for Support during a period of operational pressure, requiring experienced interim leadership to support service improvement across their housing and hostel services.

The Challenge

The client needed to recruit a senior change-focused role to oversee improvements within their residential and hostel services.

Initially scoped as a short-term contract of 3–4 months, the requirement came with:

  • A need for quick turnaround
  • A senior-level professional with sector-specific experience
  • Limited internal capacity to source, screen, and onboard candidates quickly

Time was critical, as service improvement work needed to begin immediately.

Our Approach

We acted quickly to identify and source a high-calibre interim professional with:

  • Proven experience in social housing and supported accommodation
  • Strong leadership and operational change expertise
  • The ability to build rapport quickly with senior stakeholders

The candidate met with the Director of Operations promptly, was offered the role shortly after interview, and started quickly, allowing the client to maintain momentum on key projects.

The Outcome

✔ Senior interim role filled at short notice
✔ Contract extended beyond the original term due to strong performance
✔ High-quality service improvement support delivered
✔ Reduced pressure on senior leadership team
✔ Strong working relationship established

Although the role was initially intended as a short-term solution, the quality of work delivered led to the contract being extended to around six months, demonstrating the value and impact of the placement.
